We're sort of expecting Sony to have an Xperia Z4 mobile to announce any time soon, but the rumour mill waits for no phone. Sources claim Sony's already fleshed out plans for the Z5 series, with three Z5-branded phones and tablets currently at the sketches-on-a-napkin stage inside the Sony cafeteria.
The rumour is predictable enough to be entirely true. Mobile news site Android Origin claims that the entirely guessable product line will feature the Xperia Z5, Z5 Ultra and a smaller Z5 Compact, mirroring the three-pronged, one-size-for-everyone approach that's led to some serious success for Sony over the past few years.
The site says we can expect to see the Z5 trio to appear in the heat of a "Q4 announcement," which is slightly odd timing as we've not seen the Z4 phone arrive yet. With the latter expected to be announced some time this month, that would only give it six or seven months as the flagship model before this supposed new wave hits.
In terms of specs, the source claims the Xperia Z5 and Z5 Ultra should/could be powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 820, with the compact version's brainpower currently unknown. The key interesting new things will be Qualcomm's 3D ultrasonic fingerprint sensor tech, which the site claims could be part of the Z5 Ultra, plus a completely new exterior design for the series is mentioned.
