As villains go, the Star Wars universe has one of the most enviable rogue's gallery of any franchise. Darth Vader, Darth Maul, Emperor Palpatine, Jabba The Hutt, Boba Fett, George Lucas, Moff Tarkin - the list is long and distinguished. But none have caused such consternation in recent times as one Kylo Ren.
Who's that, you ask? Read on...
Last year the first teaser for Star Wars: The Force Awakens sent fanboys (and girls) into fits of rage over what many thought was a poorly designed lightsaber. Who was this cowled interloper with this terribly thought out weapon? What manner of villain could hope to command the hopes and dreams of the forces of darkness when armed with something that looked as though it may lop his fingers off if he slipped?
Well, it turns out that the bloke in question is none other than Kylo Ren, the new bad guy in J.J. Abrams's reboot of Star Wars. The image of him - played by Adam Driver - comes courtesy of Vanity Fair; in the magazine's new cover feature, Ren can be seen scowling away on some snow-covered planet, leading a couple of stormtroopers... somewhere.
The article also offers up a couple of new tidbits about J.J. Abrams's new film. Apparently the forces that comprised The Galactic Empire are now called The First Order in the wake of Palpatine's quick trip to the bottom of a ventilation on The Death Star. The Rebel Alliance for its part is now know simply as, The Resistance. So thanks, Vanity Fair, for clearing that up.
There's still no word on whether that silly lightsaber will get tweaked, though. [Vanity Fair]
