Another torrent indexer has bitten the dust today, and this time it's nothing to do with ISP blocks or international police raids. EZTV appears to have fallen to a bizarre case of domain name hijacking that's seen the site's owner simply give up trying to fend off the attackers.
According to TorrentFreak, which pieced together the story of what happened, the original EZTV domain was first pulled offline after the WHOIS information was found to be invalid. The site admins moved to a new domain name and abandoned its former home, allowing some prompt scammers to sign up the Italian .it address while it was out of use.
This opened the door to the scammers registering a UK company called EZCloud, a company they then used as an official looking front to wangle ownership of the EZTV.se domain name from its registrar. Once the domain was in their possession, the well-prepared hackers then had a way into site owner NovaKing's mailboxes and additional domains, from where they seized the new EZTV.ch domain name – and several of the owner's personal site addresses.
So the owner has apparently stopped trying to keep the site alive and has abandoned his legacy TV torrent-sharing dream. EZTV accounts on other torrent trackers are being suspended, as the pirating-Game-of-Thrones community bands around one of its fallen colleagues to stop the incomers trading on someone else's former glories.
