London is set to get the world's first all-electric double decker buses, as the iconic red public transport wagons go green with new low-emissions power sources.
Mayor-come-bumbling buffoon Boris Johnson announced the news today in the British capital, with the city's commuters already making use of double-decker hybrids and all-electric single decker buses.
Developed by BYD, the bus will hit London's streets for a brief trial in October, serving the number 16 bus route between Cricklewood and Victoria Station.
After that, South London's route 312, travelling between Norwood and South Croydon will become the first route solely served by an all-electric fleet, with the roll out expected to be completed by the end of the year. [London.gov.uk]
