Besides an excuse to buy more building sets, the most exciting thing about the upcoming Lego Dimensions game is the gameplay caters to whichever characters you’ve chosen. Yesterday at E3, Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment released a new trailer for the game revealing its Portal level, and it looks like it includes the same kinds of puzzles that made the original game so addictive.
It was also revealed that the Lego Dimensions’ Toy Pad, the device that allows players to bring Lego vehicles and minifigs into the game, can actually serve as an additional gameplay element. In the case of the Portal level, players have to place their minifigs on different coloured sections of the light-up Toy Pad at different times to solve GLaDOS's unique challenges.
Being able to use the Toy Pad accessory while you game makes the whole idea behind Lego Dimensions, combining real-world and digital play, slightly less gimmicky. It also helps to introduce new types of gameplay to video games, so as you’re buying new characters and unlocking new levels in Lego Dimensions, it won’t necessarily be just more of the same.
