Who is the 'Bromley Batman' Vigilante Stalking London's Streets?

By James O Malley on at

He's not the hero that Bromley deserves, but could he be the hero that Bromley needs right now. A masked vigilante has been spotted in South London standing up for the little guy and fighting off muggers.

According to the Evening Standard, the "Bromley Batman" rescued one city worker a few days ago when he was mugged at knifepoint:

"I thought I was quite literally done for," he is quoted as saying.

"Then, out of nowhere, a man about 6ft tall, dressed in black combat-style trousers and a tight muscle top, and wearing a black bandana mask, came running towards them.

"He kicked the biggest of my attackers to the ground, which must have knocked the wind out of him.

"Then he grabbed one of the others and swung him into the other one, and pushed them both into a prickly hedge. They were both screaming in pain."

Since, the Standard has received other reports of the Batman's activities: apparently he has also tripped up a mugger who was getting away at Lewisham DLR station, and in Penge he is said to have held two violent drunks in a "ninja lock". He has been described as having a "well groomed" beard and deep voice. We're already looking forward to the film adaption, as long as he isn't played by Ben Affleck.

Of course, it could all be an elaborate hoax, but surely we've got to hope that it is real? He's a silent guardian, a watchful protector. A Bromley Knight.
