0800 Numbers Are Free From Mobiles From Today

By James O Malley on at

As we reported yesterday changes are being made to the way call charging works, and the good news is that from today calls to 0800 numbers from mobile phones should be actually free for the first time.

Engadget reports that the changes also apply to 0808, 084, 087 and 09 numbers too, removing any ambiguity as to whether making a quick call is going to cost a bomb.

As we explained yesterday, the new changes also mean that phone numbers will have to be advertised with an "access charge" and a "service charge" named separately - meaning that we should see an end to "calls from mobiles may vary" disclaimers. [Engadget]
