Google Doodle Honours Monster-Guru Eiji Tsubaraya

Google has come up with a rather elaborate Doodle to celebrate what would have been the 114th birthday of Godzilla co-creator Eiji Tsubaraya.

If you head over to the Google homepage and hit play, you'll be taken through a ten stage mini-game in which you must click and help construct a short monster film - using your mouse to ensure that the monsters are lit correctly and that it crushes the buildings on cue.

Eiji Tsuburaya is perhaps best known for his special effects work in over 250 films spanning his 50 year career - but he also directed, produced and did cinematography work on other films too. His best known work is probably the Godzilla series, followed by Ultraman. Slightly awkwardly, during World War II, he worked on a number of propaganda films for the Japanese government.

This isn't the first time Google has pushed the boat out with its doodle image. Who remembers Google's amazing tribute to Charlie Chaplin?
