Tesla has jumped on the affiliate sales bandwagon, and is offering people the chance to bag $1,000 in commission per sale should they convince, force or trick a friend to buy one of the company's electric cars by clicking on a link.
Musk explained the deal in an email to owners, saying: "From now through October 31st, if someone buys a new Model S through your link, they will get $1,000 off the purchase price and you will get a $1,000 credit in your Tesla account, which can be applied to a future car purchase, service charge or accessories. To put some limits on the experiment, each Tesla owner can grant a maximum of ten $1,000 discounts."
So no, you can't actually win/blag enough money to pay for an entire car, but the potential for Tesla owners to win up to $10k (£6,400) in cashback ought to ensure a flurry of spam emails about electric cars circles the planet. There's more than cash on offer too, with Musk offering a visit to the company's Gigafactory to anyone who sells five Teslas via the word of mouth scheme, plus the first person to blag 10 Tesla sale referrals gets a Founder Series Model X for nothing.
