Nintendo and DeNA Planning Five-IP Assault on Mobile

The partnership between Nintendo and F2P expert DeNA will start to bear fruit later this year, as the first of the long awaited Nintendo franchises hits iOS and Android. And there's more in the pipeline too, with DeNA's boss saying there are five separate IPs being reworked for smartphone.

The quotes come via Pocket Gamer, where DeNA West boss Shintaro Asako was quoted as saying: "I understand some people like RPGs, casual games. That's why we decided to work together to create five games, hitting on different genre-utilizing IPs."

That's presumed and hoped to mean there might be a Nintendo RPG, a Nintendo platform game starring that man in the overalls, a Nintendo 3D space shooter and perhaps even a Nintendo resource management game starring little animals and a bad man called Tom Nook. We can dream.

And Asako is also dreaming quite big, adding: "We want to make sure out of those five IP that we can end up attracting hundreds of millions of people," which would mean that a future Nintendo iOS exclusive could outsell the entire Wii U portfolio within an hour of being released.

As long as it's something more exciting than a Yoshi-branded tile-matching game or Princess Peach's Sweetie Crush Story. [Pocket Gamer via Venturebeat]
