Sky Wins/Buys "Near Live" Premier League Highlight Rights for Apps

Sky's sporting division has acquired a new contract that covers the serving of "near-live" highlights to all Premier League games across its various digital platforms, meaning there could soon be some sort of virtually instant goal-reels and slow motion foul replays provided to users of its mobile apps.

Sky says the three year deal starts in time for the 2016/17 season, and covers provision to its "mobile and online" users. Some of the money to pay for it all to happen is coming from News UK, meaning the man-appealing-to football content will also appear on the web sites of the Times and Sun newspapers, and no doubt through all the numerous apps all these media giants have spewed out too.

Sky Sports MD Barney Francis said it's all about the likes and subs these days, explaining: "...this will allow us to offer our customers even more content across mobile and online. The way people watch sport is changing rapidly and this agreement ensures Sky Sports will continue to offer the best coverage across TV, mobile, online and social media." [Sky via Engadget]
