EE's avian-themed assault of the budget smartphone market continues today. First we had the Harrier and the Harrier Mini and now, for just £49 (£39 if you're already with the network), EE is introducing the no-frills, 4G-connected Rook.
So, what does 49 quid get you? Well, pretty much exactly what you think it would. Sat firmly in the entry end of the smartphone market, the EE Rook is powered by a quad-core MediaTek chipset with 1GB of RAM, with 8GB of built-in storage (expandable by 32GB with microSD cards) a 5MP rear camera sensor and a 0.3MP front-facing camera. It's the screen where the cost-cutting is most obvious, with the 4-inch display only pushing out a lowly 800 x 480 resolution. At least then the 1,500mAh battery won't have to work quite so hard, and EE has managed to squeeze in the latest version of Android.
So, if an affordable 4G connection is all you need, well, that box is ticked. On sale from EE now, be sure to check out our choices for the best budget phone for under £100 before slapping down the cash. [EE]
