A lack of suitable ammo being experienced by the Dutch military is having a bizarre effect on the nation's training events, with soldiers apparently ordered to shout "bang" instead of shooting guns due to a shortage of live ammunition.
The revelation comes from an email leaked to national news source RTL, which says training sessions, shooting competitions and shooting range practise sessions for soldiers are being cancelled due to a lack of ammo. The ammo is apparently being used up on international missions, with military chiefs not expecting a return to normal supply levels until 2016.
The message was backed up by a member of military union VBM, who told De Standard that: "Even if you have no bullets, you have to train with your weapon. That means you have to call out bang-bang-bang. That is of course disastrous for the morale of the military. You do not want to do this to a professional." [RTL via Independent]
