Remember that incredible looking Alien sequel from Neil Blomkamp that everyone (including Sigourney Weaver) is excited about? It turns out there's one small obstacle in getting that film made, and it comes in the form of the man who gave us that two-hour long plot hole known as Prometheus.
Yep, it turns out that Ridley Scott is adamant that the sequel to his own crappy film has to be made first. You see he's producing both films, so presumably he doesn't want this Blomkamp character coming in and stealing all the glory. Prometheus 2 is supposed to start filming next year, ready for a 2017 release date. That means if Scott gets his way we won't be seeing Blomkamp's Alien movie until 2018 at the very earliest.
There is a silver lining in all this, however. The delay means Blomkamp has more time to refine his script and will help production work around Sigourney Weaver's commitment to the Avatar sequels. I suppose we can all accept a bit of a wait to make sure this film is done properly, especially since the Alien franchise needs a solid win. [Bloody Disgusting via Den of Geek]
