Apple Invents News, Sorry, Brings Apple News App to the UK

Apple News has launched in the UK (hurrah!), so your daily current affairs catch-up may be a touch more exciting, but equally depressing, this morning. If you’ve downloaded the latest iOS update, which also brings a raft of new emoji with it, you’ll automatically get Apple's shiny new News app.

It works as a personalised newsfeed, both automatically aggregating the stuff you’re interested in, as well as allowing you to choose your own favourite topics and flick through general suggestions. There’s no word out of Apple HQ yet, but we imagine Tim Cook’s currently running around the place excitedly screaming about how Apple's invented the news.

The iOS 9.1 update also includes a tweak for Live Photos that senses when you raise your phone to take a picture. This feature is designed to minimise unwanted recordings, and generally, make Apple’s mobile GIF machine work better.
