Fresh from explaining the benefits of nuking Mars and offering fashion advice to spacemen, Elon Musk has landed back on earth with a bang. The Tesla CEO has torn into Apple, ridiculing its recently launched Pencil and iPad Pro, as well as the Apple Watch and much-rumoured Apple Car.
Speaking to German newspaper Handelsblatt this week, the real-world Tony Stark set out to explain why the thought of a Tim Cook-powered vehicle isn't keeping him up at night, and it's safe to say the claws were out.
"They have hired people we've fired," he said in response to a question about Apple's recruitment of his former employees. "If you don't make it at Tesla, you go work at Apple."
Not content with these blows, Musk decided to take a couple of extra swings, and we sort of agree with him. "Did you ever take a look at the Apple Watch? No, seriously, it's good that Apple is moving and investing in this direction. But cars are very complex compared to phones or smartwatches. You can't just go to a supplier like Foxconn and say: Build me a car. But for Apple, the car is the next logical thing to finally offer a significant innovation. A new pencil or a bigger iPad alone were not relevant enough."
