It’s been one of few sources of comfort for Tesco over recent times, but it looks like the Hudl line of tablets is heading to an early grave. The first Hudl was good, but the Hudl 2 was an excellent little budget tab. Fast, well-built and gloriously cheap, Tesco hit the nail on the head.
We were expecting Tesco to unveil a third model during the first week of October, but it hasn’t arrived. What’s more, it doesn’t look like it’s coming anytime soon, if at all. “We continue to sell our Hudl 2 and it remains a popular device with our customers,” said Tesco, when asked about its plans. “We have no current plans to release a Hudl 3.” Other sources say have been a little more concrete, saying that the Hudl 3 will never hit the market.
Bleaker still is the fact that a number of key figures behind the tablet no longer work with Tesco. Big boss Dave Lewis has been pretty ruthless with Tesco's 'non-core' assets in an effort to get the company back on track, having already got rid of Blinkbox this year. It now looks like a sad, quiet end for Hudl too. [Marketing Magazine, Engadget]
