OnePlus to Refund People Who Bought its Flawed USB-C Cable

By Chris Mills on at

The reversible USB-C cable and charger that OnePlus sells for its OnePlus 2 smartphone has no problem charging that particular phone. But as a Google engineer pointed out, it’s not up to spec for all USB-C devices.

In a statement, OnePlus acknowledged the problem, but restated that its cable works perfectly well with its device:

“Recently it has come to our attention that two of our products, the OnePlus Type-C cable and the OnePlus USB Type-C adapter, are using a resistor that may not be fully compatible with some third-party devices. Please rest assured that this cable and adapter are safe to use with the OnePlus 2.”

To help customers, OnePlus has created a chart showing what devices are safe to use with its chargers. It is also offering customers who separately purchased the cable refunds any time before December 31st.
