There had to be a catch. Since the day it was announced, fans and non-fans have been scratching their heads, wondering how anyone could possibly create an entire movie about Batman's beef with Superman. Muscle-bound human with weapons and a car vs all-conquering alien with more superpowers than many of us have had hot dinners. Things are looking a little clearer now.
The latest Batman vs Superman trailer, which aired last night, starts by building the tension between Clark Kent and Bruce Wayne. The one who likes to prance around with bat ears stuck to his head doesn’t take too kindly to Kent accusing Batman of thinking he’s above the law, responding by calling The Daily Planet hypocritical, and pouring scorn over Superman’s heroic deeds. It’s like ‘My dad’s harder than your dad’, but a bit pettier.
The two subsequently fool around for a little while, with Superman managing to get Batman in chains. However, the one in red undies then makes a significant admission. “If I wanted it, you’d be dead already,” he snarls. Like Dominic Toretto and Luke Hobbs in Fast Five, the two beefcakes then join forces and battle against a weird, fire-breathing troll thing (that looks like it was lifted straight out of the Lord of the Rings), which was presumably cooked up by Jesse Eisenberg’s Lex Luthor.
Oh, and Gal Gadot’s Wonder Woman makes a brief appearance, saving Batman's life and quickly assuming the role of group leader.
