Microsoft's Apparently Scrapped the Surface Phone For a Surface Phone

By Aatif Sulleyman on at

It’s been doing the rounds on the rumour mill for far too long, but it just isn’t going away. Actually, it did, but now it’s back again. A Surface Phone is reportedly in the works, but it’s apparently very different to the Surface Phone we were previously led to believe was coming. That one’s believed to have been scrapped, but the idea’s still alive. Still with me?

Right now, the gossip is extremely vague. There’s talk that the mythical Surface Phone will pack Intel hardware, but we don’t even know if that refers to the CPU yet. It also looks like it will be metal-clad when it lands, with most fingers pointing towards a magnesium body.

The Lumia 950 and Lumia 950XL have received mixed reviews since they landed earlier this year, unlike the Surface Pro 4 and Surface Book, which had people falling over themselves. If Microsoft does eventually manage to crack the smartphone formula, Apple and Google may finally have a decent rival. Now, let's get some proper rumours cooking. [Windows Central]
