The internet as a whole wasn't entirely impressed by the first trailer for the third return to Star Trek, with the action-themed teaser for Star Trek Beyond binning the wided-eyed exploration ethos of Trek in favour of something resembling a sci-fi version of Bad Boys II.
But it won't be like that at all honest no mate you'll love it, says Scotty Simon Pegg, who was speaking to reporters at the premiere of the new episode of rival sci-fi franchise Star Wars. Pegg said of the Trek Beyond trailer: "I didn’t love it because I know there’s a lot more to the film. There’s a lot more story and a lot more character stuff, and a lot more what I would call Star Trek stuff".
Here he is, standing up for Trek 3:
"To the Star Trek guys I’d say hang in there, be patient," Pegg adds. So there might be some calm inter-species snogging interludes and opinions about God in it after all, rather than the trailer's endless mash-up of CG battles, head-kicks and wisecracks, that seem to have it resembling a reboot of Sliders more than Gene Roddenberry's thoughtful original.
