Bizarre Hack Sees 'Singing Chap' Take Over Stratford-Upon-Avon's Website

By Aatif Sulleyman on at

The Stratford-upon-Avon town council site appeared to be hacked in bizarre circumstances earlier today, with Malwarebytes tipping us off about a ‘singing chap’ being slapped across the home page. While William Shakespeare may have appreciated the theatre, we can’t imagine anyone else was too impressed.

The bizarre image was accompanied by the following text:

Qur'an 3:19: - Indeed the religion in sight of Allah is Islam and those who were given the scripture did not differ except after knowledge had come to them - out of jealous anomosity between themselves. And whoever disbelieves in the verses of Allah, then indeed Allah is swift in [taking] account.

Morroccan #escortsoffline

Indeed.

The stranger-than-strange reference to escorts is, according to Malwarebytes’ Christopher Boyd, related to another hacking campaign aimed at escort sites, involving defacement and data theft. There’s no word on how or why the hackers targeted Stratford-upon-Avon, though everything seems to be up and running as normal now.
