HSBC Bank Hack Locks Out Online Customers

Are you a HSBC customer having trouble accessing your account today? You can thank hackers (or whoever set up HSBC's security systems, depending on your perspective) for the inconvenience.

The bank took to Twitter to acknowledge the attack, stating that it has "successfully defended" its systems. However, in the process this caused a disruption of services for its customers.

Speaking to the BBC, HSBC stated that it was a denial of service attack that had caused the problems. Though HSBC says that its customers should (if not already) be able to log-back onto its online services, it'll come as little solace to those affected. It's hard to imagine a more inconvenient time for a UK bank to have service problems, landing on the first pay day after Christmas, and the last working day before the tax return deadline.
