Pay £1m to Live in a "Quirky" London Public Toilet

By Gary Cutlack on at

An underground toilet in East London has just hit the market, with offers over £1m getting the potential owner a literal former shithole within walking distance of Shoreditch.

The property is being marketed as a "Unique Restaurant/Bar in the heart of Commercial Steet," by which they mean it's an old toilet under the road. It was previously converted into a nightclub, but that didn't last long, as it was closed after complaints of drug use.

At only 600 sq ft it would require some serious excavation work in order to convert it into one of today's urban super basements, although it does come with some outside space -- a stretch of charming concrete beside the road. [Clarke & Lloyds via Guardian]
