Safari Crashing on iPhone and Mac? Here's a Quick Fix

By Aatif Sulleyman on at

Lots of Mac and iPhone users appear to be struggling with Safari this morning, with Apple's browser crashing whenever you try to search from the address bar. Fortunately, Twitter’s full of clever developer types, who’ve pinpointed the problem. Assuming you haven't unwittingly clicked on the now-infamous 'Crash Safari' link, Safari Suggestions appears to be at fault. Thankfully, the fix is very straightforward. Here's what you need to do:

  1. Safari --> Preferences --> Search tab
  2. Uncheck Safari Suggestions
  3. Restart Safari
Let us know how you get on.

There's speculation that the flaw is related to this week's iOS 9.2.1 update, but users have also reported problems on iOS 9.2. Another theory is that Apple, which hasn't yet acknowledged the issue, is having problems with its servers. We'll keep you updated as we learn more.
