We’ve been really excited about Sky Q since it was unveiled back in November, but Sky’s been frustratingly quiet on the pricing and release date front. We’ve now learned that the impressive new TV service will land in the real world in February. That's pretty soon. Unfortunately, specific dates have not yet been revealed, but we expect to hear proper numbers extremely soon.
Sadly, pricing remains a mystery, but Cable.co.uk appears to have jumped the gun, this morning announcing that Sky Q packages will start at at £42 per month with no up-front equipment costs, as Sky will retain ownership of the hardware. We got to play with Sky Q last week, and it’s every bit as lovely as we imagined it would be.
The 4K TV service essentially drags TV into the 21st century, allowing you to pig out on up to five programs on the various screens in your home at any one time, all while you record up to four other channels. What’s more, anything recorded to your box can also be downloaded to your mobile devices, allowing you to watch Sky’s goodies while you’re out and about. TV certainly seems to be moving in the right direction, but whether you can afford it or not remains to be seen. [T3]
