Watch the Biggest Ever Drone Swarm Take to the Sky in Style

Take 100 drones. Strap lights to them and launch them into the air. Control them with a single piece of software and have an orchestra play Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony in the background. Voila: you have a world record and a spectacular light show to boot.

Intel has claimed a Guinness World Record for its latest artistic drone swarm. The event, which looks like some kind of technological fireworks display, took place at Flugplatz Ahrenlohe, Tornesch, Germany. It was all controlled by Intel software, and you can watch the video below.

It beats a previous record by the Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey California which managed to loft 50 drones into the skies in the name of research. [Guinness World Records via Engadget]
