It sounds kind of silly, but Apple’s reportedly planning on calling its next tablet the 9.7-inch iPad Pro, rather than the iPad Air 3. The Pro is the company’s massive, 12.9-inch tablet, which came out last year, and it looks like its creator wants to build the iPad's future around that line, in the hope that it will trick customers into thinking they need to buy a new tab. We’ve already seen something similar with the 12-inch MacBook, which was a successor to the MacBook Air in everything but name.
The new iPad is expected to arrive on March 15th, at the iPhone 5se event. Apple looks like it will sell the 9.7-incher alongside the Apple Pencil and a Smart Keyboard cover attachment. After all, there’s no point branding something ‘Pro’ if you can’t work on it, and productivity is oh so sexy.
The incoming handset is also said to feature quad stereo speakers, the A9X processor and RAM upgrades from the 12.9-inch model, and will be available in the same colour schemes. Its arrival is likely to signal the end of the road for the original iPad Air and iPad mini 2, which we'll no doubt shed a solitary tear for on the night. [9to5Mac]
