Suicide Bomber Blew Himself Out of a Plane, Everyone Else Survives

By Gary Cutlack on at

A photograph of a Somalian airliner shows a hole in the side of the fuselage, one punched through from the inside when a suicide bomber is thought to have detonated his device. Luckily for everyone else, the blast only made a hole in the side wall and sucked out the bomber.

The current theory, published by the WSJ, is that the man boarded the flight in a wheelchair as a ruse to get around some security procedures and smuggle his explosive device on the plane. So far so good, and all like a proper terrorist.

What happened next must've amazed his last few moments of consciousness and his fellow passengers. Shortly after take off the man is thought to have detonated his explosive device, only to suffer the ultimate fail of only killing himself -- and blowing a hole in the wall of the jet only he was sucked out out, therefore also cleaning up the mess he made on the seat.

The jet was able to land despite being so rudely popped open in this tragi-comic terror error. A bit of tape on the hole and the plane will be ready to fly again. [Gawker]
