Mobile operator Three is apparently set to block online ads on its network. The move is expected to be announced at MWC next Tuesday, and is guaranteed to cause major controversy. According to reports, the firm’s partnered up with Israeli outfit Shine, which specialises in cutting ads from digital content.
It’s understood that Three is still in the process of working out a strategy, but it’s likely that the most data-hungry types of advertising, such as those annoying videos that play automatically, will be targeted first. Trials involving select UK customers are expected to kick off over the next few months.
It's safe to say that ad-reliant digital publishers aren't best pleased. Things could be about to turn nasty. [Telegraph]
