With Daniel Craig apparently sick to death of being portrayed as the smooth operator he most definitely isn’t, Idris Elba has been heavily linked with the James Bond role, and the actor has now has spoken of his desire to become the next 007. In an interview this week, the The Wire star revealed that he isn’t yet in talks with producers, but believes that everybody wants him to take up the mantle when Craig officially hangs up his tux.
“It’s all rumour-ville,” he said. “I’m not speaking to the James Bond people, and they’re not speaking to me. If human beings want to know if there’s any connectivity between all of us, the one thing I’ve heard around the world universally is, ‘You’ll be great as James Bond.’
“So if it was to happen, there you go – the will of the nation.”
The other actors apparently in the running for the Bond role, such as Damien Lewis, Tom Hiddlestone and Henry Cavill are all massive poshos, and it would certainly be interesting to see the spy depicted as a bit of a lad who doesn’t always pronounce his Ts. As a black man, Bond might even be subjected to some racist abuse now and again, which would certainly shake things up. [Standard]
