One of the UK’s most revered steam trains, the Flying Scotsman, will be joining Thomas The Tank Engine and friends as they gear up for their 11th feature-length movie: The Great Race.
The 70ft British icon, famous for being the first train to operate at 100 mph back in 1934, will be introduced as Gordon’s brother in its traditional green and red get-up.
The Scotsman will compete with Thomas and thirteen new international characters from Russia to Brazil as they try to derail each other’s efforts to represent the island of Sodor at the Great Railway Show.
Other new characters will include Axel of Belgium, Carlos of Mexico and Ashima of India; voiced by Bollywood actress Tina Desai, who aside from being known for her role in The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel, is a “huge fan of Thomas”.
“My character Ashima really shines through as being strong and adventurous and I am particularly pleased that she will be such a positive role model for so many girls across the globe”, said Tina.
“With new characters from around the world, the film has a wonderfully diverse and multi-cultural feel that I hope every child should be able to relate to and be inspired by in some way.”
Having just celebrated his 70th birthday, Thomas is showing no signs of slowing down or going loco (-motive). Take the kids to see the film when it hits cinemas in May.
