'Jurassic World 2' Led by Horror Director J.A. Bayona

Horror expert J.A. Bayona has landed one of the biggest jobs in Hollywood beside monitoring Google Alerts for litigious Tom Cruise rumours, with the man set to direct dinosaur blockbuster of the future Jurassic World 2.

The news came from dinosaur blockbuster of 2015 director Colin Trevorrow, who was given the massively tweet-worthy news to announce himself yesterday, and said: "Proud to collaborate with one of my favorite filmmakers on the next Jurassic adventure. JA Bayona, it's all yours."

Bayona's had two standout successes in the past; the really quite enjoyably weird horror of The Orphanage, plus 2012's slightly artier The Impossible; based on the events of the 2004 tsunami that wrecked the coastline of Thailand. The Impossible starred Naomi Watts who picked up an Oscar nomination for the part, so at least Bayona ought to do a better job of giving women things to do in films than Trevorrow.

His hiring mirrors the coming of Trevorrow, who landed the first Jurassic World job after doing just the one previous significant feature, and that turned out OK. Financially speaking, at least. [Independent]
