This coming Friday sees the third Captain America film, Civil War, hit cinema screens across the UK. We'll get to see Team Cap go head to head with Team Tony, for reasons. You've got a few days to prep before you head to the cinema to see Avengers 2.5, and here's some of the stuff you might want to get your hands on beforehand.
Civil War, £7.69
Civil War is loosely based on the comic of the same name, so what better way to get ready then reading the source material? The comic itself is about the debate over superheroes' secret identities, rather than government oversight, but the core concept remains the same. Tony is for, Cap is against, fights ensue. Spider-Man is involved somehow.
Civil War was a big event that took over every single Marvel comic at the time, so there are a lot of tie-in titles. Buying every single one is going to cost a fortune, so if you must read them all grab yourself a Marvel Unlimited subscription and save yourself some cash. If you want physical copies, grab the box set of the entire event (£277.50). You can also get Civil War: Warzones, a 'What if?' style tie-in to Marvel's recent Secret Wars event. [Buy it here]
Past Marvel Movies
Civil War is a sequel to a bunch of different films, so there's a bit you need to catch up on. If you want to keep it simple, make sure to rewatch Captain America: The Winter Soldier and Avengers: Age of Ultron, both of which lead directly into the events of the new film. It might also be a good idea to rewatch Captain America: The First Avenger, The Avengers, and Ant-Man so you know exactly who's who.
If you want to go all out, you can just go ahead and rewatch everything, including all of the MCU's Phase One, Iron Man 3, Thor: The Dark World, and Guardians of the Galaxy. Or check out the recaps in our extensive guide to the MCU.
Civil War Prelude, £23
Marvel's done a lot of comic prequels and tie-ins to MCU movies, and Civil War is no exception. This collected edition has comic adaptations of both Iron Man 3 and Captain America: The Winter Soldier. Hardly original, by any means, but it'll make good reading. [Buy it here]
Lego Superhero Airport Battle, £68
I haven't seen Civil War yet, but from what I've heard the airport scene is one of the highlights of the film. If you want to have some fun with it before you go and see the film (or after, I'm not a cop), make sure to add this to your (presumably) extensive Lego collection. It comes with Cap, Bucky, Iron Man, War Machine, Ant-Man, Giant Man, Scarlett Witch, Agent 13, and an Avengers Quinjet. [Buy it here]
Lego Marvel Avengers, from £22
A proper movie tie-in game for once, just a few years too late. Lego Marvel Avengers focusses on the many movies of the MCU, with the classic humour and gameplay Lego games are well known for. Thankfully it doesn't just feature MCU characters, so you've got plenty of classic Marvel characters to enjoy. [Buy it here]
Civil Blaster Shield/Armour, £23 each
Pick a side, and then pick up a Nerf blaster based on that side. You've got a choice between Captain America's shield and Iron Man's arm (but weird, but ok). Both are fairly basic toys, but come on who wouldn't want to shoot Nerf darts at people with Cap's shield? [Buy Cap's Shield here] [Buy Iron Man's Armour here]
Disney Infinity 3.0 Battlegrounds, £20
This add-on for Disney Infinity 3 turns it into more of a fighting game, and you have to battle your way through each level to stop Loki and Ultron from stealing an Infinity Stone. You will need to main Infinity 3 game, but you can use any of the characters from Disney Infinity 3 and 2. [Buy it here]
Captain America 1:1 Replica Shield, £149
Nerf shield not your taste? Why not get a life-size version of Cap's shield instead? It's not bulletproof (it's made from ABS plastic), but it looks like the real deal. Perfect for cosplay, or just to put on display in your home. [Buy it here]
Captain America LED Wall Light, £24
Ok, so a giant expensive shield on the wall doesn't do much. Why not grab a shield that's also an LED light? It sticks to the wall without any pesky nails or fittings, and looks as though Captain America himself burst through your door and threw it straight at the wall. [Buy it here]
Iron Man LED Wall Light, £24
Strong Team Stark supporter? Forget the shield and get this light instead. It looks as though Iron Man has decided to burst through the wall and got stuck. Get your act together, Tony... [Buy it here]
Civil War Funko Pop Set, £21
If it exists, Funko will make five or six Funko Pop figures based on it. Rather than having to pick a side this earlier, this two-pack lets you pick up mini versions of both Captain America and Iron Man. Now you can put them up on a shelf and pretend they're getting ready to fight. You can also buy them both separately. [Buy it here]
If you;re heading to the cinema, you want to dress the part. So make sure to get yourself sorted with some Civil War-themed t-shirts. We have Captain America's shield, Iron Man's Arc Reactor, Team Cap, Team Stark, Both heroes, and both heroes' logos mashed together.
