How to Access the Redesigned YouTube Site Before it Goes Live

By Aatif Sulleyman on at

YouTube appears to be in line for a Material Design-esque facelift. Google’s testing a fresh, Android app-inspired look for the world’s favourite video site -- porn aside, of course -- and, thanks to Reddit user giorgiomarinel, you’re free to fire it up and check it out before it goes live.

Here’s what you need to do:

  1. Open Chrome in Incognito Mode
  2. Go to https:www.youtube.com/?gl=US
  3. Open the developer tools (ctrl + shift + i)
  4. Go to the 'Resources' tab and delete the VISITOR_INFO1_LIVE cookie for the YouTube domain
  5. Go to the console and define the VISITOR_INFO1_LIVE cookie using the following command: document.cookie="VISITOR_INFO1_LIVE=Qa1hUZu3gtk;path=/;domain=.youtube.com";
  6. Reload the page

It looks flatter, cleaner and slightly brighter than the current version of the site, with a heavier focus on images rather than text and menus. There's no word yet on when when Google plans to roll it out, but have a fiddle and let us know what you think in the comments section. [Mashable]
