With Microsoft nailing its E3 announcement yesterday (despite the fact everything leaked beforehand and WWDC was happening at the same time), it was time for Sony to step up the the plate this morning. It didn’t disappoint.
The Japanese company has announced that the PlayStation VR will hit the market on October 13th, with a $399 / £349 pricetag. It’s a little later than originally expected, but that time will fly by, if your life's not rubbish, anyway.
The company has also promised that over 50 PlayStation VR games will be available by the end of the year. These include Farpoint, in which you explore alien planets, a Star Wars: Battlefront spin-off called X-Wing VR Mission, a Final Fantasy XV thing and Batman Arkham VR. Eagle Flight, Eve: Valkyrie, Headmaster, PlayStation VR Worlds, Rez Infinite, Rigs: Mechanized Combat League, Tumble VR, Until Dawn: Rush of Blood and Wayward Sky were announced earlier this year.
Many expect Sony’s headset to be a bit of a dark horse, as half the hardware -- the PS4 -- that'll be needed for its take on virtual reality already sits in many homes of its target audience. The headset itself is also set to be significantly cheaper than both the £499 Oculus Rift and the £689 HTC Vive. [Kotaku UK]
