Good morning anyone who’s actually reading this in the wake of what’s just happened! If you’re in need of a pick-me-up, we may have just the thing (but most likely not).
According to the Telegraph, a “proposed multi-trillion pound strategic development program” -- probably up to multi-bazillion at this stage, of course -- drawn up for Vladimir Putin outlines plans to develop Star Trek-style teleportation within 20 years.
It’s almost certainly not going to happen, though there'll be some sort of breakthrough nobody understands at one point, but if we can’t dream today when the hell can we? Plus, scientists have already successfully managed to teleport bits of data, and how much harder can living humans be?
"It sounds fantastical today, but there have been successful experiments at Stanford at the molecular level," Alexander Galitsky, an investor in the country's technology sector, told Russia's Kommersant Daily. "Much of the tech we have today was drawn from science fiction films 20 years ago."
People have been calling for magic to lift the country’s spirits, but it could be sci-fi physics that saves the day. Unfortunately, that day may or may not come in 2036. It won’t. [Telegraph]
