Investigations are underway after a man who was tasered by police in Llanelli, Carmarthenshire on Tuesday evening died.
He became unresponsive after being stunned, but officers are reported to have ‘engaged’ with the man before discharging the weapon. He was later pronounced dead.
Police were originally called in to deal with the man, identified by locals as 43-year-old Spencer Beynon, because of concerns about his behaviour and welfare. Beynon appeared to be injured before he was stunned, though specific details are yet to emerge.
“Dyfed-Powys Police were called to an incident in Llanelli relating to the behaviour and welfare of a man,” said a spokeswoman for the force. “A full investigation has commenced and Dyfed-Powys Police referred the matter to the IPCC, who will now conduct an independent investigation.” [BBC]
