Footage from inside the Singapore Airlines flight that caught fire this week has been posted to YouTube, and it makes for pretty spectacular viewing. An entire wing is engulfed in flames at the start of the clip, though emergency crews manage to successfully tackle the blaze with foam.
Here’s the video:
The passengers onboard the plane seem unusually calm throughout, with one guy even saying “That’s really annoying” when the foam partly obscures the window closest to the camera. Damn foam, ruining the action.
The drama unfolded yesterday, during a flight from Singapore to Milan. The pilot decided to steer the Boeing 777-300ER aircraft back to its starting point two hours into the journey, after detecting problems with the engine.
However, it’s not yet clear why the plane wasn’t diverted to a nearer airport or indeed why the 222 passengers and 19 crew members weren’t allowed to disembark down the emergency slide things we all secretly want to use -- which reportedly would have been on the other side of the plane to the fire -- when the aircraft touched down.
Fortunately, there were no injuries. [Cnet]
