UKTV -- the broadcaster behind that group of ever-reliable channels you tune into when you've eaten too much and nothing’s on, like Dave, W, Gold, Eden and Alibi -- has announced a new deal that will see Virgin Media customers gain access to over 10,000 hours of catch-up and box set content.
The company’s doubling the number of programmes available on Virgin Media, covering UKTV originals, as well as British and American acquisitions and golden oldies from the BBC, ITV and Channel 4. Flagship titles include Taskmaster, The Office, Doctor Who, Only Fools & Horses and Sherlock.
The deal also includes the launch of the updated UKTV Play app on Virgin Media’s TiVo platform, and UKTV says the extra content will be available “later this year”.
It's understood that Virgin Media is currently working on a 4K TiVo 2 box to take on Sky Q, but there's no word yet on when that might make it to the market. It seems likely that the UKTV content expansion will happen first.
