Waitrose is about to start selling a newer and apparently healthier strand of chicken meat in its supermarkets, one that'll come with a claim that it contains nice omega 3 oils to make us marginally more powerful after eating a whole pack strewn across a mountain of spaghetti.
The range will see meat packer Moy Park assemble 10 product lines of this new super chicken for Waitrose customers, ones that'll feature health claims on the pack due to having a concentration of the essential omega 3 polyunsaturated fatty acids -- the good fats -- put there by adding it to the birds' diet.
A pre-launch trial saw consumers increase the levels of omega 3 fats in their bloodstream by an average of 12 per cent thanks to eating the magic white meat (although one man had to be destroyed after growing feathers), with Waitrose agricultural director Heather Jenkins saying: "Our research is showing that this nutritional breakthrough has the potential to have a significant impact on health. What’s exciting is that it’s improving the nutritional content of something which customers already consume frequently as part of their diets."
Now we just need to get Walkers to put some of the stuff in crisps, so our lunches are healthier too. [Meat Trade]
