Films, Games, Events: What to Get up to This Weekend

By Aatif Sulleyman on at

Was that one lovely week really all that July had to offer? Crikey. Bring on August, but let’s see this latest disappointing month out in style. Here’s what to get up to this weekend.

Jason Bourne or Finding Dory? Two films at opposite ends of the spectrum, but equally enticing. Depending on your attention span, anyway.

In terms of reviews, Dory’s blown Jason out of the water, with the amnesiac regal tang picking up almost universal praise for its wit, humour and... emotion. Jason Bourne, meanwhile, is generally considered to be decent, but nothing on the magnificent originals (the Jeremy Renner disaster doesn’t count).

This week’s must-play: Hyper Light Drifter

Don’t be fooled by the pretty pictures, this is a bloody difficult game. In fact, that’s the only real criticism we have of it. Hyper Light Drifter is hard. It’s landed on the Xbox One and PlayStation 4 this week, and is well worth getting to grips with. It’s okay to swear excessively on the weekends, you know. Read the Kotaku review here.

Don’t forget about Comic Con! The geekfest comes to London this weekend, and it needs no introduction. If you’ve already made alternate plans, go and take a long hard look at yourself in the mirror. If you haven’t, have a great time!

For any of you too cool for make-believe characters and racy costumes, there’s always the Prudential RideLondon FreeCycle event and the Alpamare Water Park in Scarborough. It’s really all about Comic Con though.
