Sky’s boss has decided to finally put us all out of our misery, announcing that 4K will be switched on for Q on August 13th. In case you weren’t already aware, that’s when the 2016/17 season begins, with the miracle men of Leicester City travelling to Hull for the opening game at 12.30pm.
We’ll all finally get a clear look at Jamie Vardy’s magic wrist cast, and find out once and for all whether or not he really does have the phrase “Chat shit, get banged” tattooed on his earlobe.
124 Premier League games and every race from Formula 1 2017 will be shown in 4K on Sky Q, but it’s not all about sport. There’ll be a bunch of super-sharp documentaries, movies and TV shows too, including the following:
- The Martian
- The Revenant*
- Bridge of Spies
- Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials
* DiCaprio’s gurning, drooling face in 4K. I’m feeling slightly queasy just thinking about it. Seriously, look at the state of this.
Movies (Sky Store rentals)
- Angry Birds
- Men In Black
- Big Cats: An Amazing Animal Family
- Monkeys: An Amazing Animal Family
- Richard Hammond's Jungle Quest
- The Young Pope
- The Blacklist
Lots of lovely stuff there, and a few things we've never heard of before and probably won't hear of again. That said, 4K is scientifically proven to make stuff appear a lot more interesting than it actually is, so maybe everything shown in UHD on Sky Q will be nail-bitingly amazing. Time will tell.
We've played with the service a few times already this year, and here's our list of Sky Q tips and tricks that will help you get the most out of it.
