YOU SHALL NOT PASS (Through the Sacrament of Marriage) Mr Napster

Ian McKellen, of latter day Gandalf and Magneto fame, has revealed that he turned down the chance to bank a quick £1m by officiating at a rich man's wedding while dressed as fantasy kingpin Gandalf.

The rich man in question is Sean Parker, who's somehow still massively wealthy despite being best known as the founder of ancient music-thievery portal Napster. Parker offered the actor $1.5m to manage the formalities of his wedding to singer Alexandra Lenas, although it was the stipulation that he do it while dressed as Gandalf for the amusement of attendees that killed the deal.

McKellan told the Mail on Sunday that: "I was offered one-and- a-half million dollars to marry a very famous couple in California, which I would perhaps have considered doing but I had to go dressed as Gandalf. So I said, 'I am sorry, Gandalf doesn’t do weddings'."

It didn't put Parker off the idea, though, as he still went ahead with the Tolkien-inspired wedding back in 2013, although Sting and Trudie didn't really put in much effort. [Guardian]
