Drugs and Porn Lead to Huge Rise in US Exorcisms

By Gary Cutlack on at

Modern troubles like porn addiction and drug use are triggering a rise in the number of traditional remedies in the US, where skyrocketing demand for exorcisms to treat dad's non-stop MILF cravings are seeing record numbers of priests trained in the ancient bad-begone ritual.

The number of official exorcists within the Catholic church in the US has increased from  12 to 50 over the last decade, as people blame Satan for everything from madness to getting caught shoplifting. The Telegraph spoke to Father Thomas and Father Lampert, two US-based priests whose special powers include being able to perform the Rite of Exorcism to, maybe if people believe in it enough, expel bad things from those afflicted by Satan.

Father Thomas explains of those who come to him for a quick lunchtime exorcism: "Often the stories are very complicated and many have been suffering for a long time. They’re sick in one way or another ... and sometimes they do have a demonic problem."

But most time it appears to be people looking for an easy fix, with Father Lampert saying: "A lot of times people call me and already believe they’re possessed. I tell them that I think their situation is more psychological than evil and they don’t like that answer. So they’ll go and continue to try to find someone to tell them what they want to hear."
