A man who terrified an elderly lady by appearing to be trying to break into her home at 7:30am on a Sunday morning has apologised, telling her it was all a bit of a drunken mistake as he'd got the houses mixed up.
The lady was awoken by the noise and saw hands lunging at her windows, triggering quite the panic. She had CCTV cameras attached to her house, and the next day her daughter-in-law circulated images of the apparent crime on social media warning that a burglar was operating in the area. But he wasn't. He just wanted to get in and have several mugs of water and go to bed.
The man -- without revealing his identity -- posted a handwritten apology to the homeowners, saying: "I cannot begin to express how sorry I am for my disturbance in the early hours of Sunday morning. I had been out that night and overindulged and was completely disorientated and unaware of my surroundings. I believe I thought your house was my own."
He also apologised to a bin for thinking it was a toilet. [Metro]
