The stats are in. Kanye West won the gold medal for the typing things you think into Twitter competition for the day of August 31 2016, with a is-it?-isn't-it? ironic message about his favourite international brand.
His five-word declaration "McDonalds is my favorite brand" earned nearly 100,000 retweets and just short of 150,000 retweets in less than 24 hours at time of writing, making it instantly more popular and widely read that the collected works of many of the world's most respected authors. If only they'd mentioned burgers.
Unlike Katy Perry's awful scripted message on behalf of Spotify, West's tweet is a bit harder to understand. Is he being serious? Did he get paid for it? Is it for a bet? Is it part of a community service punishment because he was caught doing something bad in a franchise? We'll never know, not unless it's part of a sequence in that programme about his wife and all those other ones who look like his wife and spend all day buying shoes and taking photos of themselves.
