Tinder Boost Lets You Jump to the Front of the Matchmaking Line, for a Price

If you live in a fairly well populated area, you will find that there are a lot of people on Tinder. Especially men. So trying to make sure you stand out could be a little bit difficult. But worry not, because Tinder has a solution.

The popular dating/casual sex app has announced a new feature called 'Tinder Boost'. How it works is simple, you give Tinder some money and for the next half an hour the app prioritises your profile over people who haven't paid. So it's like pay-to-win features in video games. The only difference is that, in this case, 'winning' means that you have a much better chance of having sex with someone.

Of course, that's not how Tinder has described it. It's much more tasteful than that. Instead the company says that Tinder Boost is designed to maximise your experience while you're using the app. A company blog post had this to say:

You’ve got people to meet and places to be. In fact, Tinder was designed with this in mind, providing you a simple, fun introduction to new people nearby so you can get out and meet them in the real world. Still, sometimes there just aren’t enough hours in the day and what you need is a boost in the right direction. Tinder Boost gives you exactly that: a way to be one of the top profiles in your area for 30 minutes. Increase your chances for a match—you can get up to 10x more profile views while boosting.

The only problem is when there are a lot of people boosting at the same time. If you, and every other person in a five mile radius, has coughed up the cash for a boost, then you're not exactly going to get the desired effect.

As ever Tinder is launching Tinder Boost in Australia, before rolling the feature out to users across the world. We don't have any indication on how much each half hour boost session will cost, but the company has promised that Tinder Plus subscribers will get a single free boost each week.
