We've Found a Tech Angle on the #Brangelina Divorce

By James O Malley on at

The world of show business is in shock today following the announcement that Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt are filing for divorce. And as if the prospect of a sequel to Mr and Mrs Smith vanishing wasn't bad enough, even worse for us is that there isn't an obvious way that here at Giz UK we can find an angle to #engage #millennial with our #content.

But this said, we're motivated by the words of Brad Pitt in Moneyball, who said "You think losing is fun?", as well as his words in Fight Club, when he said "Stop trying to control everything and just let go! LET GO!"

So in that spirit, we thought we'd take a brief look at some of the technology Pitt and Jolie have been pictured with over the years.

Macbook Pro 2007

In retrospect perhaps this was the first sign something was wrong. Angelina is looking at a screenplay Brad has sent her, but the maniac has used Microsoft Word, rather than having simply shared her into a Google Doc. How will he see her edits?!

Palm Pre

On the set of Salt Angelina was pictured using the doomed Palm Pre. Sure, it might be uglier than an iPhone - but there was something weirdly charming about it. Clearly she was never going to stick with someone as conventionally attractive as Pitt. (Incidentally, this might also explain her interest in William Hague.)

This image is the perfect metaphor for Brad's frustrations. He's 52 years old - whereas Angelina is just 41. Can love really stretch that far? Perhaps all along he's been trying to do the romantic equivalent of download Pokémon Go on to a phone from turn of the millennium?

More photographic evidence that Brad doesn't really understand technology - just as he never really understood Angelina. You don't have to hold the phone high in the air to get signal! But of course, Old Man Pitt doesn't listen.

HTC One M8 and Samsung Galaxy S4

He's smiling at this HTC One M8, but inside he's really thinking "What is this magic rectangle? How do I call the operator to put me through?".

Samsung Galaxy Note 3

Poor Brad. While the rest of the hip, young stars know what's going on, he's just standing there bewildered - plastering on a smile and hoping for the best. "Don't embarrass me in front of our celebrity friends", Angelina thinks.

Sadly it's unknown whether the couple kept pace with technology, so it will remain a mystery whether Angelina ever upgraded her Macbook Pro to a post-2008 model, so they could Airdrop files to each other. Perhaps this lack of communication is what contributed to the end of their marriage?

If you have a favourite Jolie or Pitt technology moment, do share it with us in the comments below - and together we can wonder what might have been for Brad and Angelina, if only Apple had refreshed the Macbooks to include Skylake processors earlier this year, as was widely expected.
