Watching customers fumble with their awkwardly stacked change and receipts is no longer doing it for Tesco staff -- seriously, why’s it always coins on top? -- who have decided to trial a paperless system, similar to the one Argos already offers.
The supermarket is currently testing its sensible, but not especially exciting vision of the future at a Harlow branch, where customers can tap a special sticker on a terminal at the checkout. This sends a digital receipt to their phone through the Tesco app.
“We’re always looking for ways to make the shopping trip a little bit easier for customers,” a Tesco spokesman told Mashable. “We’re currently trialling a digital receipt service in one of our stores which will allow customers to keep a record of all their receipts in one place.”
The trial is set to end in mid-November, at which point Tesco will ask for feedback from the customers who took part. [Mashable]
